インド特許庁は、インド政府と人工知能の適用拡大を進めおり、本件は特許審査、さらには政府やガバナンスのプロセスにおいて人工知能が適用されることになった最初の事例となります。

日本の特許庁でもAIを中心とする取り組みを開始し、業務のスピードアップと効率化を図っています。
特許庁ではAIを使って特許関連の質問に対する自動回答を始めており、人手によるものと遜色ないとしています。
特許庁は過去3年間に注目すべき様々なPOCを実施、結果をもとに主要な知的財産権業務のためのAIベースのソリューション構築を決定し、これには先行技術調査も含まれています(参照4)。

USPTOも実現可能な解決策に新技術を活用しています。この流れの中にいる、すべてのイノベ ーターと企業を招待してセミナーを開催しました(参照5)。

A company is famous in JAPAN to develop AI technologies for the Indian Patent office.
Indian Patent office to Incorporate XLPAT technologies in Patent Processing Patent applications in India will now be examined using Artificial Intelligence and other automated systems.

Indian Patent Office has given a go-ahead for applying Artificial Intelligence in Patent Processing by the government of India in a move that marks a first in a leap towards Artificial Intelligence being applied in the examinationof patents OR even within processes in government OR ingovernance.
The go-ahead has been given to TT Consultants that also has a product XLPAT- an AI tool for patent search and analytics.The firm has a strong global presence and has a very strongagent and customer support network in JAPAN.
IP and R&D departments of many Japanese companies are using XLPAT to make their internal processes more efficient.
Further, founder Mrs Komal Sharma Talwar also featured in the Japan Forbes September issue this year and was recognized to be a leader in applying AI to IP.

At present patent, examiners are overloaded by a lot of patent applications and it takes many years for patents to be granted.
Using automation and Artificial Intelligence, the government hopes to reduce the burden on Patent Examiners and also create more efficiency and consistency in Patent processes.
Some of the points where the Patent office sees new technology being used include patent processing, examination, classification,stage-wise analysis etc.
Every year, about 55,000 new patents are filed every year and the processing is manually intensive.
Government plans to automate and increase quality for the process and introduce efficiency within the system to create more confidence in Start-ups, Universities and Foreign Investors.
Not only India, but patent offices around the globe are eyeing emerging technologies like AI to speed up and dynamize the IPR processes.

Even the Japan Patent Office has started taking up AI-centric initiatives in order to speed up its operations and make it more efficient. The JPO has already started using AI to generate responses to its patent-related queries and has found it to bequite similar to human-generated ones.
It also developed notable various POCs in the past three years and based upon them has now decided to build a viable AI-based solution for key IPR operations which also includes prior-art searching (Reference 4).

The USPTO too is tapping into emerging technologies in order to build a viable solution.
It also held a seminar where it invited all the innovators and companies working in this direction (Reference 5).

Therefore, artificial Intelligence is envisaged in various processes including Patent Filing, Classification, Screening, Publication, Allotment, Prior Art Searching and Other phases.
